SCTI FAQ's

How many people can I include in my policy?

You can purchase a policy online to include up to 11 travellers.

Am I covered if I go on a cruise?

Yes,you can purchase a TravelCare policy if the cruise is travelling around Australia as part of your international itinerary. For example, the cruise ship departs Auckland and travels around the North Island of New Zealand, then on to Australia, cruising around the coast. However if your cruise ship is only travelling through Australian waters, you are not eligible to purchase a TravelCare policy, as it covers international travel only.

Am I covered for skiing and snowboarding?

Yes, as long as you are skiing or snowboarding within designated commercial ski areas. There is no cover for skiing or snowboarding which happens off piste, or outside of ski resort boundaries, or in areas which have been closed for any reason. There is no cover for participation in (or training for) professional skiing, individual or team skiing competitions which involve monetary prizes over $500. Your skis or snowboarding equipment are not covered if damaged when in use.

Are kids covered for free?

Yes, that’s right, kids will be covered at no added cost! Dependent children and grandchildren are included for free as long as they are under 18 years of age and not in full time employment.

Can I pay to reduce or cancel my excess?

No, an excess of $100 applies to any claim payments made to you.

What additional extras are there?

You can increase your luggage cover up to $10,000 for any single item (with a maximum limit of $15,000 per journey)

Am I covered if my tour company collapses?

No, SCTI doesn’t provide protection from insolvency.

I’m not an Australian resident- can I buy cover?

Yes, you can as long as you are on a work permit which allows for a continuous
stay of at least two years in Australia.

What size moped or motorbike am I covered to ride overseas?

You are only insured to ride a bike of up to 200cc irrespective of what’s on your license. You will not be covered unless you hold a valid license in Australia for the same class of vehicle you are operating overseas and you are wearing a helmet.

How long is their single trip cover for?

12 months.

Can I extend my policy from overseas?

You can extend your policy by another 12 months by contacting SCTI directly. If you have an Annual Frequent Traveller policy, no extension will be granted once the 90th day of a journey or your 'End Date of insurance' has passed. If you have a Single Journey policy, no extension will be granted once your 'End Date of Insurance' has passed.

Do they cover for my rental vehicle excess?

Yes, for up to $5,000. You are only insured for a standard model motor vehicle, motor home (designed to carry no more than 8 people including the driver) or a moped or motorcycle with a maximum engine capacity of 200cc. The vehicle must be rented from a licensed motor vehicle rental agency.

Who underwrites them?

Southern Cross Travel Insurance.

Where are they based?

Sydney!
