My experience with Travel Insurance Direct has been satisfactory. Their customer service is a little unreliable. But their plans cover a wide variety of situations from natural disasters to terrorist attacks. And their website is highly helpful and explains their policies in detail.

During our last trip the car that we had rented met with an accident and they paid for the car rental excess and our medical expenses. Highly recommended.

I found that TID's policy was cheap and covered everything I wanted to be covered for and there was no excess. I did not have to make a claim this time, but after reading about troubles in the forums, I might do some intensive research before purchasing my next travel insurance policy.

I purchased travel insurance with TID last year. My grandfather fell ill while I was on my trip. I had to cut my trip short and TID covered my travel to get home, and back to Canada a month later so I could continue with my planned trip. It was the last time I saw my grandfather alive. I was grateful for having TID. It was really unexpected as none of my family members thought it would be covered by TID. It took me less than a couple of minutes to sign up and it provided a lot of benefits at a very low price. The only downside to it was it took ages to process my claim instead of the promised 10 days.

This is my 4th time using TID. Although during those 4 times I have travelled I haven't had to make any claims, I am pleased with the professionalism shown by the TID staff and the ease of booking. I have recommended them to my friends in the past and will continue to recommend more.

Travel Insurance Direct really needs to improve their service and their policies to keep up with the ever growing travel insurance market. Although my claim was approved, it took months. I hope they will be able get their act together the next time or I'm off to another insurer.

Bought my first policy with TID and I broke 2 ribs while in Florida. When I got back to Australia 2 weeks later, I went to the doctors for xrays to confirm. TID paid up within days of lodging the claim. Good and honest insurers. Will use them again for my next trip.

Everybody travelling overseas should purchase travel insurance. They should also be sure that they have adequate cover for medical as it can get very expensive if you fall sick or get injured overseas. After conducting some comparisons, I find that TID offers great benefits with very competitive prices. Purchasing was easy. And I made a quick phone call to the call centre to clarify some issues that I did not understand. I managed to travel with no issues so I did not have to make a claim. However, I believe that they would provide the same service as they would have had I needed to make a claim.

My suitcase was damaged on my travels. After my return to Australia, I made a claim with all relevant documentations but did not receive a reply for 3 weeks. I contacted claims, but they said they did not receive my claim. 3 months later still no reply. I will look for other insurers when I travel next time.

On my recent business trip to China, I was pickpocketed while walking in the market at night. I lost my wallet and it had my credit cards and drivers licence. Luckily I had a spare card that I left in my hotel to use for the remainder of my trip. And when I got back, TID covered me for the lost cash and credit card replacement fees.

I purchased a policy online of TID website. I like the simplicity of the purchase process. They also write to you after your trip to give you the link in case you want to make a claim. It would have been better if they had a more personalised reply compared to their standard replies.
