Canada's busiest general sightseeing season is June to September, when warmer weather opens national parks, hiking trails and road-trip routes. July and August are particularly popular with families and international visitors. Autumn foliage brings another peak in parts of eastern Canada during September and October, while ski resorts in British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec are busiest in winter. The shoulder months of April, May and November are often quieter, although some attractions and seasonal services may be closed. Crowds and demand depend strongly on region and outdoor activities.

Canada's natural-disaster risks vary widely by province and season. Wildfire risk is generally highest during the warmer, drier months from May to September, particularly in western and northern regions, and smoke can affect air quality far from fires. Spring snowmelt and heavy rain can cause flooding, while winter brings blizzards, ice storms and extreme cold in many areas. British Columbia and other mountainous regions can face avalanche risks in winter and spring. Earthquakes are a year-round risk in parts of western Canada. Check regional alerts because conditions differ greatly across this large country.

Canada has a wide range of climates, from milder coastal conditions in British Columbia to long, cold winters across much of the interior and east. June to August is generally the warmest period for city breaks, national parks and road trips, while September and early October can bring spectacular autumn foliage in eastern provinces. Winter, roughly December to March, brings snow and freezing temperatures in many regions and is ideal for ski trips. Spring can be variable, with lingering snow in some areas. Choose travel dates by province and activity rather than using one national seasonal pattern.

Where each factor comes from

Each factor is normalised to a 0-10 monthly score. Crowds, disaster risk and costs are inverted before they are combined, so a higher score is always better. The sliders set how much each factor contributes. This page scores Toronto.
