Travel Insurance Reviews

We bought their insurance specifically to cover Do Not Travel warnings for a few countries we were visiting. This was specifically based on some advertising they ran selling this product with lots of nice graphs and tick boxes highlighting just how much was covered. When such a warning came out (Bolivia) they hid behind some minute policy detail and refused to pay for the flights we had to cancel. Please note our tour company gave a full refund immediately. They were quite responsive in their denial and claimed it had all gone to various review departments so it all seems quite sophisticated. Seems like quite a few others have had similar experiences. Don’t make our mistake and just use another company.

I had my luggage and valuables stolen in the train at Barcelona. Made a claim in accordance with their instructions and submitted all required documentation which took a very long time. They required further information and/or documentation until they come across one which you cannot produce, at which point they refuse assess your claim and do not pay you. They took an average of 10 working days to reply to each of my emails (which is the maximum time requirement for them to reply to you). In my case, they are now refusing to assess my claim as I cannot submit my train ticket which was inside the stolen luggage. This is ridiculous. I cannot stress enough for any potential customers to avoid World Nomads at all costs. It is very easy to pay for the travel insurance with World Nomads as is the process to make a claim because their website is very easy to use. However, the claim process takes a very long time, and in the end, if you are not frustrated into giving up the claim, they always find a way to not settle the claim and do not pay out. If this is not an example of a scam, I don't know what is. Please read the other reviews very carefully - most of the good reviews on World Nomads is in regards to how easy it is for you to use their website to pay and make a claim, not getting your claim paid out. Avoid at all costs.

Don't book with this company!
We got caught by a cyclone in Fiji and had to evacuate the small islands to the mainland. All our trip was pretty much changed, delayed or canceled. A series of unfortunate events and we thought we were covered.
Been two months back and forward with a claim and they keep sending emails asking over and over for the same documents, creating excuses, delaying and avoiding paying.
Every time we contact them, the person in charge of claims is not available, they say will contact us back in 4 business days and nothing, every email takes around 10/15 business days to be answered, everything is just long and unnecessary.
Just giving 1 rating because is not possible to give 0!

Scam company. The policy wording and agreement documents are misleading and should be illegal. I am making a formal complaint. This is the second time i have booked the first time i had no issue and i'm lucky because I was doing Everest. Had anything happened to me i'd probably be dead they wouldn't pay out and i now know that. The second time they refused to pay me for items lost in checked luggage despite it being locked. Travel insurance is supposed to protect you!! Do not book with this insurance. They will find any way not to pay you. My items were taken from my locked bag on a Qantas flight and somehow thats not covered??

I contacted World Nomads due to an emergency health issue in Nepal. They harassed me constantly with phone calls offering 'assistance' but provided no real practical help. In the last few days before flying home they voided my policy leaving me with no insurance. When I returned home to lodge and dispute claim - they have either been non contactable or have put up various road blocks as to why the information I have provided is inadequate. All the phone calls I received offering help now look suspiciously like they were hunting for information to make sure I couldn't make a claim.

I submitted a claim a month ago and haven't had a response. Its only a small straight forward claim. When I email asking for an update they say they will be in contact but never get in touch. Waste of money.

I would like to thank the World Nomads team for their continuous support provided to me during my trip to the Everest Base Camp. I was evacuated and had to undergo medical procedures to deal with my Acute Mountain Sickness/High Altitude Pulmonary Edema. I was very surprised to see administrative formalities getting completed without my intervention. I never felt alone and it was like the entire team was with me during my bad times. I will never forget this experience and will surely recommend World Nomads to others who need to explore their adventurous dreams and want to have a hassle free insurance experience.

World Nomads knowingly leaves out coverage of operational flight cancellations to cover themselves in paying out people who expect to have “flight cancellations” in general...covered. Useless travel insurance will definitely not use them again as they’re a complete scam that covers issues that have a low chance of happening. Definitely do not recommend. Save your money and go else where.

I had to file a claim and the whole process is unnecessarily convoluted and repetitive. They keep asking for the same documentation over and over until you run out of patience and determine the whole process isn't worth it.

Tried to claim for the first time and they keep asking for documents which I provided already. Phone calls are useless, they just keep saying they need something which is well documented and uploaded to their system. Seems this is how they do their business.

Do not even think considering this travel insurance. They offering you 10 days cancellation policy but there is no way to cancel it. They cannot do that over the phone and you do not have a such option online. I am deputing this with my credit card.

Do not, I repeat, do not spend money on the "insurance." Save yourself precious time headaches and finances. I purchased around a dozen times their travel insurance and i've only claimed once (which obviously was not covered). Once I claimed a delay baggage etc and they found any way possible not to pay anything as advertised. This time I had a very bad accident, mauled by a monkey in Oct 2018. I sent receipts already six times and still being emailed back telling me either they don’t see it, they don’t understand the pic is unclear etc. The time and energy wasted is beyond unprofessional. Also they saved a lot of money because, as we all know in many developing countries, you can’t have receipts so the claim is a partial claim. I will never ever purchase insurance and worse yet, I will tell my many students studying abroad not to do it and I will definitely spread my story.
