I would assunme the airline woulld cover a cancellation if > 12 hrs (accomodation, food) .. but not connecting flights if with another airline.
For me - 1 month in Asia witrh norm $200 excess = $135, if I added natural disaster with standard $20 excess = $145. Maybe worth extra $10 for me in Vietnam (floods, cyclones/typhoons), though I will take a chance on falliing space objects!
