I chose SCTI because they were the cheapest travel insurance for a year long world wide insurance coverage agreement. In the end I've had to make two claims, and on both occasions SCTI were just stellar. They answer questions very quickly (which is a massive relief when you are anxious about a stolen phone overseas), and send frequent updates on the claim process. After my paperwork was received by them (which they email you to inform you of receipt), it took 3-4 days for my claim to be process and accepted on both occasions and then two more for my reimbursement to be received. On other occasions when I had other queries they were easily reachable via email and phone and were really pleasant to deal with. I'm definitely planning on using them again and recommend them to others travelling for long periods.

Used Southern cross 3 times and was fine until i had to make a claim for a camera. Rate of depreciation used by Southern cross in their PDS stated as "reasonable rate" was 3 years on a camera compared to 7 years at others ( TID was one of these ). For example if I had gone with another company that also states "reasonable rates of depreciation" but uses 7 years as seems standard I would have been $616 better off. Tried to appeal to SCTI but they believe their rates are fine. This is only one example of their rates as the don't disclose what the rates are except for reasonable.Suggest using another company that does disclose their rates.

Stay away from the company I will never use them again, was told after having a major panic attack for the first time at the airport due to exsessibe bullying in the work place and not being able to travel, they will not pay. This is because they live still in the 1950's and classify a mental illness as NOT a medical condition.
I am not giving up fighting them for my claim as I think this is a policy that is relevant in this day and age when mental illness is a wide spread medical condition.

It offers great amount of coverage at a really competitive rate. I would only suggest doing your research and take photos of high value items before you go in case you need to make a claim.

What a joke, it seems like all these reviews are paid for. I have had the worst experience with this company. Never ever will I insure anything with this company. The claims assessor is the most unprofessional insurance employee person I have had to deal with (I have all his emails recorded). They unlawfully failed to adhere to some of the clauses of the GIC. They are trying anything they can to unethically deny our claim by appointing numerous investigators and trying to trip us up. They didn't even reply to our first email when we were robbed and didn't eve care about our safety and security concerns. The marketing team and the assessor leader also failed to call us back to help us solve some of our concerns.

I was stuck in Uganda, Africa with no flight home after a flight cancellation and Southern Cross eased my stress, covering my claim without the need to jump through hoops. Cheers.

When we scratched our campervan only 200 metres from dropping it off in Los Angeles after a 3,000 mile drive, Southern Cross paid every cent for rectifying the problem. :)

not the people you want in an emergency. 1 staff member who spoke Portuguese, could not sort ambulance from Angra to Rio, booked the doctor on separate flight home to Aus. Hopeless.

I feel ripped off. I recently made a claim for my 2 year old iPad, which was in mint condition. The original receipt was for $688. Southern Cross Travel Insurance calculated the depreciation at 44.22% then deducted $100 excess leaving me with a grand total of $283!! Not sure what I am supposed to do with that. If you travel with any valuables, be sure to specify your items or you will be left out of pocket. I tried to save a few $'s by going with SCTI, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for!". When I lost a camera several years ago, I received full replacement with American Express. I would not recommend Southern Cross Travel Insurance. Their depreciation

What I liked about southern cross was that they were easy to organise online and the prices are reasonable. I was pickpocketed in Rome. While trying to lodge the claims online, I bumped into a few problems, however, the southern cross staff took the initiative to help me with my problems, without me needing to follow up and haggle them. The claim assessment was fair and reasonable and there were no 'hidden' contract clauses.

These people are amazing, they handled a stressful situation for me with good and comforting service, they have a calming influence and helped me through the situation. I find them very helpful and supportive. I will continue to use scti.

We received a professional response to all our inquiries within 24 hrs via email. Unfortunately they were only contactable via email. However, our claim was processed and accepted and paid for very quickly. Great service. Thanks.
