Claiming is a nightmare. If I could rate lower than a 1, I would. It seems really simple and easy at first. They say all the right things, tell you just what you want to hear, and after medical issues on an overseas holiday it just seems like great service. “Seems” is the word here, cause it is an absolute nightmare actually getting anything paid. Seven months after my first claim I’m now receiving debt collector letters from the hospital, cause they don’t reject your claim, they just don’t pay it. I’m now seeking advice from the Financial Ombudsman Service and want to warn anyone to think twice. Nobody I know or have any influence over will ever use budget direct.

The whole claim process is a joke and their claims staff continually give you the run around so as they don’t have to pay out!! Will never use again and certainly never recommend!!!

Lost my bag and tried to claim but it was rejected easily by the company. Do your research before buying travel insurance. I am very confuse to what is included in the insurance.

I’ve taken budget directs travel insurance with me from Miami Florida to Sydney and everywhere in between. I’ve used their product for 4 years. Value for money is exceptional and having that peace of mind that I’m backed by quality insurance. I am lucky in my travels that I have never had to take out a claim but I know if I need to I have a great travel insurance to do it.

I was recommended Budget Direct from a friend who has used this insurance many times and on her recent trip had a claim where she received efficient service. I went online to get a quote and I was so impressed with the price of the policy. I read the PDS and was pleasantly surprised at everything the cover provided. I even got an option for no excess.

I would definitely use this policy again in the future and do recommend it.

I have used budget quite a few times for both domestic and international. I found their policies to be great value for money. Their service before during and after travel to be excellent. I have also had claims experience and found this to be fast for the help required and a quick turnaround for out of pocket expenses. I haven’t hesitated to recommend them for all your travel needs.

Bought my policy for Bali online, which was quick, easy and cheap. Liked the option to select excess and cover options. Our flight was delayed almost 48hours due to an engine issue. On return we called Budget Direct who were super helpful, explained the process and emailed the form to us. Returned the form via email the same day and was paid shortly after - even better was no excess applied for travel delay claims!

Great sales team, promise the world. Even better claims team, reject reject reject. Lost a bag, thought that since they advertise they will cover lost luggage you take with you, all would be covered, the wording in their PDS is written in a way it can be twisted by the claims dept to reject anything and everything possible. Unfair and unhelpful.

Two days into our holiday in Italy in May 2017 my father suddenly passed away. Our family arranged our flights home for the funeral. Budget Direct has refused to reimburse our travel expenses because he was prescribed medication between April 2016 and November 2016. He was 84 years old had been in good health (not in hospital for 2 years prior). We took out travel insurance in November 2016 as we booked our flights. So make sure you have knowledge of all family and friends medications before you think about using Budget Direct!

Submitted a simple claim usin their paperwork with all original documentation. They contacted me and said it was the wrong form (even though it was from their website) and then continuously lost all my original information and refused to pay out. Do not use these guys. They are cheap but do not pay out on claims.

I have always purchased travel insurance and tried to find the best deal. Budget Direct was a little more expensive this time but the benefits seemed good value.Having never made a travel claim before I didn’t realise that it’s about the claim, not the cost.Their process takes ages, they ask for extra documentation then make you wait 10 business days again, you call them and get no support, clarity, or timeline. It’s really horrible.Next time, I’m going with AAMI (if they even have travel insurance) - the extra $20 would be worth it for an easier process if i ever need to actually USE the travel insurance again.

If you have to make claim because anything can happen on the road budget direct is really bad cut corners and take longer I would say pay little bit extra go with reputed insurers
