Apparently my insurance is not valid as the cover period is not the same as my length of stay?!

Had my bag stolen in Italy worth over $4,000, showed at least $2,000 worth of receipts and only got back $600. Paid $400 for the policy in the first place. A friend I was with had her bag stolen as well, she was with cover more and received $2,700 from her insurance company!
Terrible insurance company, waste of money

Hi Madison,
Each claim is different and is evaluated on it's merits, so comparing it to others is difficult.
If you contact our offices we would be happy to get the claim re-evaluated on your behalf and find out exactly why the pay out was lower then expected.
it is also also within your rights to appeal to the ombudsman if you feel the outcome of the re-evaluation is unjust/incorrect. They are a third party whose decision the insurer must abide by.

We were caught in Bali for a week due to volcano eruption in July. Claim was paid in full within 4 weeks. One small mistake in figures, but we were reimbursed for all additional expenses. Underwritten by Allianz

Took out travel insurance with Downunder (Allianz) and was hospitalised in Tokyo, $5,000 in costs and the claim was knocked back, saying it was a pre existing medical condition! Be wary guys, you dont always get what you pay for.

We are sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. Please be aware that if you are unhappy with the outcome of a claim that you are within your rights to appeal. Your claim will be reviewed and a final decision given. If you feel the final decision is incorrect and/or your claim is valid under the terms of the policy then you can appeal with the insurance ombudsman, they will make an independent decision and have the decision over turned if they find in your favour. DownUnder as an agency are pretty good but thy can only offer the product they on-sell. In this case Allianz and Alliaz dominate the reasonable priced end of the market. BUT watch out for their exclusions. They cover emergency Dental but too bad if you have dentures because denture repair isn't covered and apparently they don't cover back injuries and the exclusions continue. You need to spend hours on their PDS.

I tried several travel insurance companies who offered a "budget" level medical insurance level, but I was also looking for car rental excess insurance as a family member had a terrible experience in the past being involved in an accident that was not their fault, but still having to pay the car rental excess. Downunder were the only travel insurance company I found that didn't equate wanting a budget level of medical insurance with NOT wanting car rental insurance.

I went Surfing in Bali and fractured my rib and had to get an xray. Down Under Insurance sorted the whole thing out without any stress on my part. Really great service all round. I will definitely be using Down Under Insurance again.

Dealing with the staff of Downunder insurance has been a harrowing experience. Till the time I bought the policy, they regularly followed up and the documentation process was very smooth. But now that I have sent a claim, nobody seems to be available. Their phones lines are always busy and even after sending a written complaint, no action has been taken.

I travel frequently and have had really bad experiences with some travel insurance companies, but at last have found a worthwhile insurer in Downunder. Within 4 days of making the claim, I received my money in full. I would truly recommend Downunder to all!

I get nervous when travelling to unfamiliar surroundings. The comprehensive insurance plan by Downunder offers all benefits to give me a peace of mind, and the best part of the policy is that I am able to speak to their representatives at any hour of the day, any day of the week. Great job!

Overall, the services of Downunder are a decent company. Their service staff is efficient and the response to queries is rather quick. If only they had a wider option of plans, it would have helped.

The domestic insurance plan provides comprehensive cover that I would not have gotten with other insurers. Downunder has the perfect plan that suits me.
